numerous steel engravings throughout the three volumes.
Each volume has a signed presentation by Susan B. Anthony to
Mary Letchworth Coonley Hollis, her “Sister in the Cause”.

All three volumes are hand-inscribed by Susan B. Anthony to Mary  Letchworth Coonley Hollis revealing that the books were given to
Hollis on her wedding day in 1892.
 
This set was a wedding gift from Susan B. Anthony to Mary Letchworth Coonley Hollis and Thomas Hollis (the nephew of famed American sculptor Daniel Chester French). 
 
This set has an extraordinary provenance which is partially shared here. A complete report is available via Barrow Bookstore upon request. 
 
Condition: Very Good Condition. Expertly rebound with full cafe leather and original labels and covers. 
 
Who was the bride to whom these books were given by Susan B. Anthony: 
 
Mary Letchworth Coonley Hollis was the granddaughter of famed Southern Suffragette Susan Look Avery.  As described in Chronicles of an American Home, Hillside Susan B. Anthony was a “devoted friend” of Avery and frequently visited the Averys’ summer home “Hillside” in Wyoming, New York. Anthony was also good friends with Avery’s eldest daughter, Lydia Avery Coonley Ward (mother of the bride Mary Letchworth Coonley) who joined her mother in the women’s rights cause.
 
The Wedding:
Mary Letchworth Coonley married Thomas Hollis in Chicago, IL, on April 18, 1892. As a wedding gift to Mary, Susan B. Anthony inscribed and presented this three-volume set of History of Woman Suffrage. At this time, the set was complete as it had been published. After 1892, more volumes were published, when it was gifted to Mary on her wedding, the set was complete as yet published. 
 
Inscriptions:
In Volume I, Anthony wrote,

"To Miss Mary Coonley
On her wedding day Easter Monday 1892—
With the hope that her expectations may be
more than realized in her new relations.
From her loving friend and elder sister
Susan B. Anthony Rochester, N.Y.”

Inscription in Volume II:
"Miss Mary Coonley with the best wishes of
her sincere friend Susan B. Anthony,
Rochester, NY. April 18, 1892."

Inscription in volume III: "Miss Mary Coonley. Chicago, Ill With the love and
faith of her sincere friend Susan B. Anthony Rochester, N.Y. April 18, 1892.
