An Old Fashioned Girl, by Louisa May Alcott
First Edition, Second Printing, Second State (BAL 163)
Published by Roberts Brothers, Boston, 1870
Once maroon cloth covered boards have faded in some places, particularly on spine which now appears more tan. Gold gilt writing and inlay on spine and cover have also faded slightly in sheen but remain clear and crisp to read.
Some wear and fraying to the cloth at the top and bottom of the spine, and small amount of bumping to book board corners.
Internal binding is secure. Some cosmetic cracking and exposing of the hinges throughout not affecting binding.
Foxing on tissue guard between frontis illustrations. Overall, pages throughout are crisp and clean. Top corner of pages 307-322 have an ~1/4" dog ear bend where they appear to have been stored in the bent position. This section has been unbent and may settle with time, but it is noticeable on close inspection.
This is a well-loved treasure to pass on as a gift for any Louisa May Alcott collector.
