"Then she wrote a short, simple note." ~Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
Short or long, write your notes on these 5x7 notecards featuring the eight illustrations from the First Editions of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women: or, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy.
Published in 1868, Little Women, Part First, was illustrated by Louisa's youngest sister, May Alcott, who was the model for "Amy March". Not yet a well-trained artist, May's four illustrations were widely canned by critics. The volume, on the other hand, was very well received and Louisa's publishers, Roberts Brothers, asked her to write a sequel. As Louisa wrote, Roberts Brothers hired professional illustrator Hammatt Billings to create four illustrations for Little Women, Part Second (published 1869).
The illustrations on these note cards feature the four original May Alcott images from Little Women, Part First, and Hammatt Billings four illustrations from Little Women, Part Second. Each illustration is accompanied by relevant text from the book
