A wonderul gift for an Alcott collector's Library.
Poppies and Wheat , by Louisa May Alcott
First Seperate Edition, published by Little, Brown, and Company (Boston) in 1900. This story originally appeared as part of a collection in Louisa's A Garland For Girls (1888).
In uncommonly good condition, this book is bound in green cloth with inlaid red poppies and gold colored inlay writing, Cloth board are bright and clean, and red and gold gilt are beautifully bright and vibrant.
There is some rubbing and bumping to corners of the book board and over the top and bottom of the spine (please see photos).
Internally, pages are bright and crisp. Several spots noticed on frontispiece and title page, but not throughout rest of the book.
Binding is secure with some cosmetic cracking and exposing of hinges particularly over pages 40-46.
Inscription to previous owner reads, "Lizzie Lucky, Merry Christmas, from the S.S"
