Signed photograph of Katherine Dunham (1909-2006) "the matriarch and queen mother of black dance."[1]

Accompanied by the original mailing envelope bearing Dunham's return address and the address of the private collector from whom this photograph comes. 

 

Katherine Dunham was an American dancer, choreographer, anthropologist, and social activist. One of the most renowned modern dance artists of the 20th century, she has been called the "matriarch and queen mother of black dance." Her film appearances included "Star Spangled Rhythm" and "Stormy Weather".

Envelope: Brown mailing paper, 11.5" x 8.5"

 

Condition:

Photo: Very Good Condition. 

Envelope: Fair. Opened and some tears on either end. Stamp, return address, and collector's address in excellent condition.
