Hardcover. Quarter Leather with black cloth covered boards. 10" x 7" x 2.25"
 
Good condition with wear at the front cover joint and loss of black leather over the top of the spine. Some spots of rubbing on front and back covers and bumping of board covers with exposure of board corners and edges. Small section of peeling cloth on the back cover just above the bottom leather corner. (Please see close up photo). There is an old stain inside the bottom of the first few pages at the bottom (please see photo) that extends to and ends at page 9. Additional old stain noticed around edges of front four pages. Light to moderate foxing throughout the volume's pages.
The binding is in good condition.

Louisa May Alcott's Under the Lilacs was first printed in serialized form in both London by Sampson and Low, and in New York by St. Nicholas’s Magazine (the children’s imprint of Scribner’s Illustrated Magazine}. The sections in St. Nicholas appeared in eleven installments between December 1877 through October 1878. The American edition of the complete book Under the Lilacs was published in October 1878 by Roberts Brothers, Boston. [BAL 188]

A wide variety of short works by other well-known authors are also published in this volume, including “Bruno’s Revenge” by Lewis Carroll who is only credited as "The Author of Alice in Wonderland".
