Self-Interpreting. Illustrated with sixty etchings and wood cuts, maps and facsimiles
(1886) Philadelphia: Gebbie & Co., Publishers
Six Volume Complete Set
Octavo (9.75" x 6.75")
Hardcovers. Gray/light-lavender cloth covered boards embossed with deep brown/purple thistle designs and stamped with gold gilt on the covers.
Gold gilt page edges.
Multiple fold out facsimile letters and engravings, all in very good condition.
Condition: Mixed from Poor to Very Good. All volumes have light scuff marks noted to the back and front covers.
Volume I cover is separating internally at the front and back joints with exposure of the netting. The rest of the binding is very good and sound. Pages are crisp and clean with some light foxing throughout.
Volume II: Very Good Condition. Sound binding and crisp and clean pages with some light foxing throughout.
Volume III: Very Good Condition with a scuff mark on the front cover below the gilt stamping. ~0.75" green line scrape noted on the cover. Please see photos.
Volume IV: Poor/Fair Condition at the cover joints inside with weakening and exposure of the hinges. The cloth board covers are holding the covers on, and Burns would likely write a lament for the condition of the cover joints as, inside, the remainder of the volume is well-bound. Pages are crisp and clean with some light foxing.
Volume V: Very Good.
Volume VI: Very Good Condition. Excellent binding and crips and clean pages.
