The History of the Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, by Cervantes, translated from the Spanish by Motteux, published by Little, Brown and Company, Boston (1865)

 

This four volume set has decorated leather spines with gilt writing and marbled covers and endpapers.  Generally in very good condition with minor scuff and wear marks as described below and shown in the photographs:

 

  • Volume I has a small piece of the leather missing in the fourth band;
  • Small scuff to the back of one cover;
  • Some shelf wear to bottoms of books and minor scuffing at edges on top and bottom;
  • Volume four has a scuff mark in the first band of the spine.

 

As described in the publishers advertisement, this edition of Don Quixote is an exact reprint of the version edited by Mr. Lockhart and published in five volumes at Edinburgh in 1822.  Volumes are 7.5 inches tall and 5 inches wide.
