Hardcovers; Blue cloth covered boarded with pasted labels. Gold imprint on covers.

 

Condition: Good/Very Good

 

Vol.1:  xvi, 334 pages, seven Maps / Vol.2: 307 pages, four Maps. Complete. Original dark blue cloth with gilt star on front board. Paper spine label.

A few white smudge marks on both sides of the cover andlight scuffing on the spine. Label is in Very Good Condition. Inside: Previous owner's book plate pasted on front free endpaper. Moderate foxing on endpapers. Other pages are crisp and clean and the binding is very good. All maps present.

 

Vol. II : 307 pages, four Maps. Complete. ~1/8" spot on cover to the right of the gold gilt cover decor. Denting on  the bottom corner by the spine and cover joint. Cosmetic and confined to the cover, not the underlying book. A few light scuff marks to the back cover. Spine label is very good. 

Inside: Previous owner's bookplate on front free end paper. Moderate foxing on endpapers and one small brown smudge on the top of the frontispiece.  Other pages are crisp and clean. The binding is very good.  All maps present.

A regimental history and official account of the Irish Guards in the First World War, written by Rudyard Kipling in honor of his son, John, who served in the Irish Guards and was killed in his first action at the battle of Loos. The collection also contains a listing of the battle rolls of honour and casualty lists of all officers and men who served with the First and Second Battalion.
