When the original printing plates were made, the copyright date was set as “1876”. This was a mistake and the printer cut out the “6” and a smaller “5” inserted in its place. You’ll note the smaller “5” on the end of the 1875 copyright date. 
 
Very Good Condition. Original purple cloth covered boards adorned with gold gilt. Gilt is bright and crips. Light rubbing on edge of the back spine. Sun fading to spine and rubbing over T in title The . Wear and denting to cloth at top and bottom of the spine. White scuff mark in the midde of the back cover. The binding is very good. BAL 12170
