“The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club” was originally serialized in nineteen parts between April 1836 to November 1837; the book in this listing is the first edition published in book form.

pp. [iv]; civil; [i], directions to the binder; [i], errata list; 609; [5]m blank. Rebound by Root and Son in full brown calf with gilt tooling to boards and spine, Morocco title labels lettered in gilt to spine, gilt dentelles.
44 black and white illustrated plates including a frontispiece, all plates present according to the list in Smith’s bibliography. Facing page 74 is an illustrated plate by “Phiz” that is not included in the 43 listed plates in Smith’s bibliography. Although it appears after page 74, the extra plate is labeled page 73.
Blue marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.
VERY GOOD CONDITION
Some toning to plates throughout (especially noted to the plate facing page 407. Please see photo). Offsetting to flyleaf margins, wearing to leather especially at the joints and extremities, light scuffs to front and back covers. 1/4”x1/8” small gauge to leather on the cover.
