Uncle Remus: His Songs and His Sayings, the Folk-lore of the Old Plantation, by Joel Chandler Harris, hardcover, first edition (good/very good conditoin)
This first edition, first state of Harris' first book is bound in mustard cloth with a black and gilt illustration on the cover and gilt title on the spine that is still legible. The book contains black and white illustrations by Frederick S. Church and James H. Moser. Indicators of the first printing (from BAL 7100) include the word "presumptive" instead of "presumptuous" on the bottom of page 9, and no mention of this book in the ads at the back of the book. 231, [1], [8, ads) pp. 1 vols. 12mo. Published by D. Appleton and Company, New York, 1881.
Book is in good to very good condition. Missing the front piece. Some bumping to the bottom of the spine and small loss of material and fraying at the top of the spine. The binding is tight and the interior is clean, but the inside front hinge is starting to show. (Please see the photos)
