Octavo (8vo) 9" x 6.25"

Three Quarter Leather with marbled covered boards and matching endpapers. The spine has five raised bands and is decorated with gold gilt lettering and stamping. The top of all the volumes pages are gold gilt; side and bottom page edges are rough cut and plain.

 

Each volume has a colored frontispiece, and colored title page. 

 

Very Good Condition. A beautiful set with very good bindings. All volumes have some moderate bumping to the book board corners with some minor exposure of boards. Detailed condition notes below:

 

The Last of the Valois (2 Volumes):

Vol I: Wear and some leather loss over the top band on the spine, and a few places of rubbing on the other raised bands leather.

Vol II: Rubbing over top band with minimal loss of leather

 

Court of France (2 Vol)

Vol. I: Rubbing and some loss of leather over the top band on the spine. Small loss of leather on the top of the book cover over the marbled paper. 

Vol. II: ~1/2 light scuff mark on back cover leather. 

 

The Court of The Tuileries  (2 Vol):

Vol. I & II: Some light scuffing to leather over raised bands and along the top of the cover boards. On Vol. I, the top right leather corner of the cover has a small nick to the leather.  Vol, II has very small nick on the leather just above "'s" of Jackson's. 

 

The First of the Bourbons (2 Vol):

Vol. I & II: Vol. II, Light wear line on spine and back cover joint. Dampstain over the gilt on the top of Volume I. (See photo) 

 

Old Paris (2 Vol):

Vol. I & II. Light rubbing at the top of the front and back cover over the marbled paper.

 

The French Court and Society (2 Vol):

Vol. I & II. Light rubbing over raised bangs, most noticeable over the top band on Vol. II.

 

Old Regime (2 Vol): 

Vol. I & II: Light rubbing on spines, most noticeable on Vol II over the two, and two middle bands. Very minor but there. Damp stain over gilt ontop of Volume II (See photo).
